Mike Binks

Mike Profile.jpgMike started working for Rock + Run in 2006, after moving back to his South Cumbrian home turf, after a couple of years in Sheffield. He admits that the amount of time spent redpointing sport routes and sieging boulder problems is not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s how he likes spending his time. It’s not all about the projecting though, as he will also say that nothing beats than a good tradding day in the Lakes.

Sterling Rope Review

Since the end of 2009 Rock + Run have had 2 Sterling ropes on test (we are also currently testing a Marathon Pro 10.1mm): the Velocity 9.8mm and the Duetto 8.4mm. I shall be reviewing the Velocity (all round single rope) later in this article, but first for some background info.

Trango Cinch

The Trango Cinch is an auto locking belay device, alongside its similar counterparts such as the Petzl Grigri, or Edelrid Eddy. I wanted to see how the Trango Cinch compared to other autolocking devices; to see whether it will permanently find a home with my sport climbing kit.

Deepdale Horseshoe

I had a great day yesterday. I drove into to Patterdale (near Ullswater) from the North as Kirkstone pass was apparently closed due to the snow. I decided to walk the Deepdale Horseshoe. Starting at Patterdale, heading up to Fairfield over the top of...

A Trip to Torridon, Scotland

In Mid September I had a week off, and the plan was to drive up the West Coast of Scotland, scouting out bouldering destinations. However my plans usually don’t work out as expected.

Sterling Ropes Preview

Sterling Ropes are due to arrive into the UK next spring. Mike Binks and Andy Hyslop of Rock + Run took an 8.4mm Evolution Duetto for a test run in the North West Highlands.

Call It What You Want DVD

This is the debut climbing film from Steep Media, a new enterprise set up by Dave and Neil Gill. The film centres on Lakes based climber George Ullrich, over the course of a year home and abroad.

On Sight DVD

Posing Productions ethos seems to lie in making films which break from the norm, whether that lies in the story telling or just of the more random amusing elements. They have defiantly got that human feel across to the viewers, with a peek into how the climbers tick.

Dosage V

Dosage V focuses mainly on bouldering, with five of the eight 'shorts' being solely bloc orientated. On top of the proliferation of bouldering there are two sport climbing sections and one major trad (unfixed protection) ascent. Below is a short summary of each of the 'doses'.
