AustriaAlpin (Who?)

Rock + Run are the only suppliers of AustriaAlpin equipment in the UK. Because we are able to place large orders direct with AustriaAlpin we are can cut out the usual UK agent/distributor stage of the supply chain and consequently offer high quality products at an unbeatable price.



The only down side is that most UK climbers and mountaineers are not familiar with AustriaAlpin as a brand or manufacturer which understandably makes them a little cautious before making a purchase of life dependant equipment.

Well, I’ll bet most people have heard of Stubai (those of us over 40). Stubai were one of the very first manufacturers of ice axes and crampons and it was from this old and respected company that Austria Alpin evolved.



In 1996 some of the original producers of the Stubai Werkzeugindustrie decided to found their own company called AustriaAlpin They wanted to realise their own ideas and offer higher quality products, excellent customer service and innovative products according to UIAA and CE standards.



In January 2003 the AustriAlpin Team was founded. Well known athletes in climbing and paragliding such as Beat Kammerlander, Gundi Kraft or Markus Gründhammer joined the Team together with enthusiastic insiders who share their practical and technical knowledge.

Today AustriaAlpin continues to innovate and develop new products. You may also be surprised that they manufacture karabiners for some well know British climbing brands!

Rock + Run Becomes a Dedicated Web-Retailer

Rock + Run are becoming a fully fledged web retailer from the 1st of March 2007. This means we will be concentrating all our efforts into developing our growing online business at our new South Lakes warehouse and closing our Ambleside retail premises.

We will have an exciting new web site launching in March with lots of new features including ‘Live Help’, gear reviews, live stock availability, customer accounts and purchase history available online, improved usability and design.

On the product front, we will be further developing our excellent value own brand products, compressing the supply chain by buying more products direct from manufacturers and ultimately offering better prices to customers, working with key suppliers to improve the merchandising and availability of their product ranges through our new web site.

Although we won’t have a retail showroom at Sandside we will be offering counter sales and customers are very welcome to call by if they need product advice or need to return any items.

As many of you will know, Rock + Run started live in Ambleside in May 1983. Although we are looking forward to the challenges of the new Rock + Run it is not without a hint of sadness that we saying goodbye to the old place. I would like to take this opportunity to say a heart felt thank you to everyone that has worked at 3-4 Cheapside in the past, and of course, many thanks to all the customers that have supported us in Ambleside over the years. We hope to see you cyberspace or, if you get chance, at our Warehouse.
